The Gateway and Whitewater areas have had a long and rich history, some of which has been vital even for the defense of our Country. From the decades old Dynamite Shoot to current search and rescue events the Fire Department has been a part of many phases of this story. Here then are some photos and memories of days gone by...
| Our First Truck This 1940 Ford was put into service in August, 1973 the same year our team was first organized. |
Our first Fire House (the day it opened) and the men who helped build it.
This fire house actually housed two vehicles...our fire truck and an ambulance. The building is still standing in Gateway (next to the school) but no longer belongs to the fire department.
In 1997 we took delivery of this used International Howe Fire Cruiser.
Umetco Minerals contributed this to us as they had
it in service from 1956 (when it was new) through 1983.
This truck is now owned by the
Grand Junction Fire Department who uses it in parades.
